Angel Island & Sam’s: 7.8

Hard to imagine someone actually living on this thing:

Someone has two chairs set up just around the corner from Pt. Bluff, must investigate:

Haggard visitors, completely stressed, obviously overcome by cheating death on the angry waters of Raccoon Strait:

Takin’ it all in:

Cove Cafe Entertainment, Victory & Penny:

Another good reason to bring your own ride to Angel:

Sam’s. Things… getting…. hazy….

Bon voyage…

Back To Berkeley: 7.1

Aloha, Estuary, it was a fun month. The shoppers were out at Michaans for the Giant Flea Swap-O-Rama for their First Sunday shenanigans:

The Bay Bridge is coming along nicely:

And who should be on hand to greet us back in the Home Port but Ed Shirk on Kelly:

Lay Day: 6.30

As Satchel Paige is supposed to have said: “Don’t look back, they might be gaining on you.”

Lunch at the Encinal Yacht Club – all the Bay Area YC’s have pools, right?

Encinal’s busy guest dock:

The folks from J-World were out and about:

And the Boat Name Of The Day – it’s a little hard to read because of the “trying to come about and take pictures at the same time” issue, but “Graceful Exit” sounded like a fine sentiment:

Lay Day 6.28

Screwin’ around: The tug “Sound Reliance” was in the Bay Ship & Yacht drydock last week – and got some shiny new screws:

Wednesday lunch at the Oakland Yacht Club:

Where they have some Jack London Memorabilia:

And the Encinal Yacht Club tows some juniors up the Estuary toward The Big Windy:

The Potters were out at play today:

Interesting yawl-like rig on this one:

The Encinal Summer Program is in full swing:

Encinal Optis huddled in the Wind River cove:

Here’s one that broke free:

Eric at Alameda Marine was kind enough to let us tie up for a quick run to Sven’s – and a stop for lunch where the elite meet to eat: The Boathouse Tavern. Garlic Noodles or Spaghetti, and game shows on the big screen. Opens at 1100.

One of the new Sunsail rental fleet was getting prepped at Svens:

And finally, our Boat Name Of The Day: The Santana 22 “Laches”. It’s a legal term, meaning essentially if you snooze, you loose.

Here’s the “legal definition” from WikiWiki:

The person invoking laches is asserting that an opposing party has “slept on its rights,” and that, as a result of this delay, circumstances have changed such that it is no longer just to grant the plaintiff’s original claim. Put another way, failure to assert one’s rights in a timely manner can result in a claim being barred by laches. Laches is a form of estoppel for delay.

In Latin,
Vigilantibus non dormientibus æquitas subvenit.

Equity aids the vigilant, not the sleeping ones (that is, those who sleep on their rights).

A short spin around the Estuary today…

San Francisco always looks like Oz:

You can enjoy it from your new houseboat:
