San Francisco is officially out of the running as the venue for the 35th America’s Cup, according to a letter from Oracle Racing CEO Russell Coutts to Mayor Ed Lee, posted on the KTVU-TV website.
Here are the operative paragraphs, and a link to the whole thing:
As advised in previous discussions and correspondence and given the tight
timeline and demands from prospective teams to confirm the final venue, it has
been necessary to continue reducing the shortlist of candidate cities to host the
35th America’s Cup (AC35).
We have therefore taken the difficult decision to no longer consider San Francisco
as a possible candidate to host AC35.
Coutts goes on to say that the City could be a World Series Venue – if it wants to. And he holds out hope for AC36.
But the bottom line is “So long, and thanks for all the fish”.
