Humphrey’s In Antioch Bankrupt

Humphrey’s Restaurant in the Antioch Marina has filed for bankruptcy. The Contra Costa Times reports the lease calls for the owners to pay $4,089/month in rent or 3% of the gross receipts, whichever is greater. According to the Times, Antioch officials say they’ve gotten $1,000 since June 2011, and owners Eva and Gilbert Romero filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection one day before a foreclosure sale scheduled for June 1.

Humphrey’s has been a welcome stop for cruisers on their way up to the Delta since it opened in 1991. The Romeros sold the restaurant a few years ago, but had to take it over when the new owners defaulted. How long it can stay open is anyone’s guess. The money from the lease goes into the Antioch Marina fund, so it’s possible this could have financial repercussions for berthers.
