The first round of the America’s Cup World Series is history – the start of an entirely new form of sailboat racing with a decidedly technological bent. Engineering Guru Stan Honey wins an Emmy for technical achievement, Oracle Spithill wins the Fleet Races, Oracle Coutts the Match Races, and as of today 4 teams are a solid “go” for competition next year in the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Challenger Series. If Loick Peyron of Energy Team can get their financing together there will be five AC72s on the Bay in 2013.

49 days from now the fun hits San Francisco Bay in the form of flying AC45s to launch the second season of the America’s Cup world series – let’s hope the welcome mat is out from San Francisco for the sailors and their teams. The teams will be here through most of October so it’s liable to be crowded out there on the water.
