A few weeks ago MojoNorm leaned across the bar and asked if I knew what was happening at Pier 38 in San Francisco. I didn’t. Pier 38 is a dry-storage and guest dock outfit next to South Beach Harbor. It turns out there’s a pretty big brouhaha there – the City claims the fella they leased the place has sublet space to dozens of technoid start-up companies, there are unsafe building conditions, the city says the lessor hasn’t paid rent in years and hasn’t fixed the place up. The Port had the place red-tagged, and all the tenants are supposed to move out by October 1st. They don’t want to leave and are raising Cain with City politicians. Here’s a link to the Port documents, including the inspection report with photos, articles by xconomy.com and the SF Biz Journal, and a link to a petition from the Techies who want to stay. Bottom line? May be some free dock space for short-term tie ups, Catherwood.
